Saw this movie Blood Diamond --how crimes are committed in Africa in many
countries to get gold and diamonds. The movie showed India --which does maximum
ccutting and polishing of diamonds after sourcing them from Belgium .

Congo is full of violence --it has maximum gold, mineral resources. Why
cannot they set up diamong cutting, polishing in Africa only . Ofcourse
traditioonally diamonds were only found in India till late 19th century so
India has skilled manpower.

Here is one whose owner I have met in his own mansion in 1996 while trying to
sell him webspace on www.expressindia.com . My cousin Vikas Nirmal (now working
for him in New York) introduced me to him. I am going to NYC to stay with him
for New Year celebration and see the ball going down at Times Square.

In 1995 I researched and wrote a project paper (for my MBA program) on
India's jems and jewelry exports -- after visiting EXIM Bank , Delhi
(Export-Import Bank) and Diamond Plaza, Mumbai -as well.

It is remarkable how much one can accomplish from so little if one puts their
mind to it -as seen from these gems' polishers and exporters ---some also
export handicraft items --like leather made dinosaurs (after Jurassic Park
succes).
