I'm sure NRAs will make her stay worthwhile.

Model seeks bite of Big Apple
- Assams Monikangkana Dutta relocates to New York after Paris stint PANKAJ
SHARMA Monikangkana at a fashion show Guwahati, Dec. 29:
Sorry, Bollywood. Hello, New York!
After setting the ramp on fire in Paris, Assams only model of international
fame Monikangkana Dutta has set her sights on New York and the coveted tag
of supermodel. To find a place in the New York fashion scene is the biggest
challenge for me at this moment, disclosed Monikangkana at her Khanapara
veterinary campus residence during a brief visit to the city last week.
Monikangkana who burst on to the national scene in 2002 after winning a
statewide beauty contest revealed that she had received a couple of offers to
act in Bollywood movies from directors Vishal Bharadwaj and Sanjay Leela
Bhansali.
Acting in movies is not my cup of tea. The offers were very lucrative, but I
said no, she added.
Monikangkana was adjudged the first runner-up in the 2002 Miss Luit Contest
organised by the North East Beauty Forum in Guwahati and after that there was
no looking back for this svelte model. She got her first real break when she
took part in the French agency Metropolitans Top Model Contest in 2003. As one
of the top five contestants that year, Dutta won a one-year contract with the
agency that took her to Paris in January 2004.
But now she is pitching for every models dream the supermodel tag.
During her brief stay in New York, the star model has already caught the eye
of the Big Apples fashion designers, model co-ordinators and choreographers.
On her return to New York after a brief vacation in the city, Monikangkana is
bracing up for a show at Bradley in the US next month. Life is very tough at
the international level but I firmly believe that if I am good enough, I will
achieve it anyway, she said.
During her stay in Paris, she had walked the ramp for Chanel and Christian
Dior and top designer John Galliano.
After working independently for a couple of years, Dutta last year signed up
with Matrix, the agency owned by photographer Atul Kasbekar, who shot the
Kingfisher calendar.
