Subject: [Iepgraduates-list] Fwd: FW: Breakthrough Ideas in Education
Initiative
Do You Know of a Breakthrough Idea in Education?
Let others know about it!
USAID partner, the Academy for Educational Develpment (AED), believes that
there are effective strategies for promoting learning, and those strategies
need to be more broadly disseminated to meet the goals of Education for All.
If you have a proven method that improves learning, and is replicable in
multiple settings and contexts, the Breakthrough Ideas in Education Initiative
can help you share it with educators around the world.
WHAT IS A BREAKTHROUGH IDEA?
This year Mohammed Yunis, founder of the Grameen Bank, was honored with a
Nobel Peace Prize for his breakthrough idea in microfinance. His simple but
rigorous method for providing credit to the poor has been successfully
replicated around the world, helping millions of people. That is a breakthrough
idea.
Are there educational breakthrough ideas that can help poor communities
increase the numbers of students who successfully master basic skills and
complete school on time? Do you have tested approaches that dramatically
improve reading skills for early readers? Do you know proven ways to
significantly increase girls ' participation in school? Are there other
educational breakthrough ideas the world should know about?
Breakthrough ideas in education are proven education innovations, methods, or
approaches that result in measurable, replicable, scaleable, and sustainable
improvements in learning.
HOW DO YOU SUBMIT YOUR IDEA?
1. Go to the Global Learning Portal ( www.glp.net).
2. Go the Breakthrough Ideas in Education announcement.
3. Download the submission form.
4. Click on "Join the Global Learning Portal."
5. Complete the GLP membership registration and click on "Submit
Registration."
6. Go to the Breakthrough Ideas in Education announcement on the membership
page.
7. Click on " Breakthrough Ideas in Education" to submit your idea.
All submissions must be received by Friday, January 26, 2007.
HOW WILL YOUR IDEA BE SHARED WITH OTHERS?
Up to ten of the most promising ideas will be awarded $1,000 each. AED will
post all responses to this notice on the Breakthrough Ideas in Education
Community located on the Global Learning Portal. AED will also publicly
recognize the selected breakthrough ideas at the annual conference of the
Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) to be held in Baltimore,
Maryland from 25 February to 1 March, 2007 .
