Hello Himendrada

One of my friend pointed out once that only two nations in the world were
made mass addicts of opium by the imperial British- Chinese and Assamese.
Chinese have since long came out of the shackles of the 'kaniya' syndrome.
We are out not yet!! Coupled with an outdated education, lack of avenues
unfortunately still make us 'lahe lahe'; 'hobo diyoks', 'ei moi ako
bhabiloo' etc. Eating 'khar' was of course an innovation that time to beat
off the scarcity of salt.

I recall the discussions we had at mid night on that day, and happy to tell
you: incident that made my resolve stronger.

We need a 'khettra' to do anything. That holds true for nationhood also, and
we are losing our land.

More later after the Magh Bihu..and we are missing your presence..

Regards..
Manoj

Sibject: The culture of 'lahe lahe type' kharkhowas

Dear Manoj,

I refuse to accept the slur that Assamese people are *'lahe lahe type'* .
This phrase was coined by our enemies after we were subjugated by the
British.

I also see stereotyping with words *"kharkhowa"* *"hobo diyok",* etc.,
particularly in the assam-net, promoted by dead-end people who
lack self-confidence and enjoy stereotyping.

Maybe you are using the phrase just to prove that they are wrong and must
not be followed.

I urge the descendants of Lachit Borphukan, Atan Buragohain and Swargadev
Chakradhwaj Singha --- every Assamese --- NOT to
use these selfeffacing words & phrases in their writings.

Remember the discussion we had that evening in January 2003 at Mizoram
House where we resolved that Srimanta Sankaradeva Bhawan must be ready in 5
years ? It is now ready in 4 years ! Congratulations !! We are proud of you
!!! Let us now do the rest of the work.

With love to everybody,
Himendra

Thanks Partha

Srimanta Sankaradeva Bhawan is a classic example of People to People
Partnership and shows what even a handful of 'lahe lahe type' kharkhowas can
achieve if they they have a resolve and focussed alignment of all the
resources that can be pulled. It's a peoples' project and property; and all
should be sensitive to its proper use in future.

Thanks again for the kind words!

Manoj
