ATASU plea to The Sentinel on Asom
GUWAHATI, Feb 16: The All Tai Ahom Students Union (ATASU) has appealed to The
Sentinel not to use the word Asom instead of Assam. In a statement issued
to The Sentinel today, ATASU president Chow Ashini Chetia said: The
Congress-BPPF(H) Government in the State took the decision to use Asom
instead of Assam on the floor of the State Assembly through voice vote and
sent the decision to the Centre, but the move on the part of the Government
hurt the sentiment of the Tai Ahoms and a number of other indigenous tribes of
the State whose consent was not sought.
Chetia further said that since the matter was a sub-judice one, the use of
Asom instead of Assam by The Sentinel was not justified.
