Its high time that this issue gets settled :

It was high time since 27+ years back-why now? ULFA was banned in 1990-continues to be.

What if it gets SETTLED -by whom will it be settled ? With the Learned Advocate support ISSUE?

Suppose it is not settled :   by Govt of India?/by ulfa? Will the learned advocate oif English Law reject ISSUE out of hand?

This is for both Nayan and Dilip:

When I volunteered to engage in a discourse about Why Independence, I did that with the hope that others would engage in it objectively too.

However, I was disappointed to see both your responses, designed NOT to look at it objectively, but to attempt to trap me on the issue of practicality or whether it achievable.

Just thought I would let you know.

Dear Sir,

I agree with you. Its high time that this issue gets settled as to why Assam needs to be independent and what exactly will be happening in Independent Assam after gaining Indepence. Although the issues as demarcated by you are necessary to be deliberated upon but in my considered opinion (subject to correction ofcourse) there are some more significant related questions that needs to be answered too.

1. What will be the status of the Independent Assamese nation? Will it be a Democracy or a Dictatorship?

2. Who will run the Government?

3. Will People (Subjects/Citizens) have a say in the Government? If Yes, Who will grant them that right?

4. What will be the minimum qualification for the would be rulers? Will it be based on Educational qualifications (such as higher degrees in Economics/Political Science/Sociology etc., or will it be practical knowledge of jungle warfare/urban assault?)

5. Who will choose these rulers? Will it be a Election? or maybe Selection? even Self Appointment?

6. What about the bulk foodgrains we need to import from other parts of India?

7. What about the boundaries of Independent Assam? Political and Geographical map of Independent Assam? Will the Sixth Schedule areas get excluded?

8. What about peace? Will it be included in the Independence package?

regards

Nayan

---- We are all ears. Let's hear it. I like the ring of "fortune", "progressive" and "prospering". When you write, please explain what will be different in independent Assam of 2008 compared to Assam as a state of India in 2007 and how that difference will come about. I am equally interested in knowing about the means independent Assam will use to bring in the "prosperity" that does not exist today. This will be a thesis in itself.

Nepal and Bangladesh are two independent countries near India. If GOI is the root cause of Assam's problems, what is holding these two independent countries from forging ahead in the 21st century outside of GOI control?

Also please be specific about the definition of  "nation and people" in independent Assam. Who are included in this nation? Are Arunachal and Meghalaya included? How about Karbi-Anglong and BTC? Would you invite the Barak valley residents? Please don't forget the Nagalim issue.

We have never had a constructive debate on the subject based on facts. May be your dissertaion would be a good starting point.

Dilip
