<The technology is to be demystified and it depends on the technologist how he/she is applying it.>

Dear Mr. Das,

I am so glad you see the POINT.

It is this habit of HIDING OF BORROWED HALF-KNOWLEDGE  that kept India at the bottom of the rung in all fields of    Knowledge-Science-Technology    -since times immemorial.

CHANGE or DIE!

Call a meeting of likeminded people  at the Centre of TOTAL DISSATISFACTION  in Orissa,
Let us unravel what people-power can do.
MiniHydro Power is only an Eye-wash.
Let us tackle that too.
Every Possibility needs examining.
Let us leave behind a PLAN FOR TOTAL CHANGE   in entire Orissa.

And let  such Fora for Total Change -taking the latest  Technology -Evolved anywhere worldwide- flourish at every CENTRE OF DISSATISFACTION in the Artificial Conglomerate created by Delhi's 5-Star Babus.

Let us at  WaterWatch  take this very seriously.

Best Regards to all

MM

Dear Mr. Mahanta,

I entirely agree with you. My experience is on the basis of working among the tribals for last 25 years.

The technology is to be demystified and it depends on the technologist how he/she is applying it.

Why don't you visit our tribal areas in Orissa? We are looking for alternative development paradigms all the time when the mainstream economy and politics is thrusting upon the tribals with mining and industrialisation.

All the best.

Dear Mr. Sreekumar,

In point#3 -you pine that you face great problems 'teaching these Tribals the basics'.

There is something wrong in your:

Teaching Method.

Learning process is same down to  the Chimpanzee.

First try your teaching methods on so-called brilliants. If these learn--the'Tribals' will probably excel.

I am a B.Tech/M.Tech fromIIT-KGP out in  1958.I had no difficulty in teaching any caste/group.

Best Regards

MM

Hello

I am associated with the Andhra Pradesh Tribal Power Corporation, which
is setting up mini hydro plants in tribal areas in the South Indian
state of Andhra Pradesh.

I also interested to hear responses to this issue. Some additional points:

1. IIT-Rourkee has a Alternate Hydro Energy Centre
(http://www.iitr.ernet.in/centers/AHEC/), which has lot of resources on
small and micro hydro.

2. The challenges of 'water to wire' are not just electrical. They are
other technical issues (civil, mechanical, hydrology etc) and
Institutional & Social (finance model, revenue model, maintainance,
management etc).

3. In the tribal areas, we are also facing the challenge of training the
local people (with low levels of formal education) to manage the plant.
We are looking for guidelines on suitable staffing and training material
for such situations.

Thanks & Regards
