http://hbswk.hbs.edu/item/5485.html HBS using stockmarket simulation software.
I wonder how it is different from the one we (I and my classmate Moses
Mathuram of Hindu Inst. of Mgt, Sonipat) played and one second prize (Rs 2000)
at IIT Delhi's college fest in Sep 1995 Rendezvous '95. Even when I went there
later the organizing students never gave any certificates -reserving them for
their graduating seniors. Our accomplishment drew the attention of HIM Director
and staff and was later mentioned in placement brochure.
I think we won by being fast in deciding when to buy and sell.
My contribution was limited to being present with Moses in various events
there (leaving Sonipat at 5am and returning by local train past midnight -one
murder is committed daily there). He was staying with some friends in Delhi.
There I learnt about JAM (just a minute) and Bible quiz (Old and New
Testament) -Moses excelled on that - later I used that experience to help
develop a quiz on Indian scriptures at Jaipur School.
There I rode the new export model of Bullet (which I later purchased in 2000
when my Yamaha was stolen. I gave away my Bullet to a friend while coming to
USA) which was much better at handling than the classic Bullet I used to ride
earlier.

"UpTick" Brings Wall Street Pressure to Students
http://hbswk.hbs.edu/item/5485.html
Money managers work in a stressful, competitive pressure cooker that's hard to
appreciate from the safety of a business management classroom. That's why HBS
professors Joshua Coval and Erik Stafford invented upTicka market simulation
program that has students sweating and strategizing as they recreate classic
market scenarios.
Research & Ideas: Dividends from Schumpeter's Noble Failure
http://hbswk.hbs.edu/item/5626.html
Before influential Harvard economist Joseph Schumpeter wrote the seminal
Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy, there came the difficult-to-digest
Business Cycles. Although the book was a failure, professor Thomas K. McCraw,
who has written a forthcoming Schumpeter biography, believes Business Cycles
developed Schumpeter's thinking on capitalism and ultimately changed the
practice of business history.
What Do YOU Think: Is There Too Little "Know Why" In Business?
http://hbswk.hbs.edu/item/5627.html
Online forum OPEN until Wednesday, February 21. There's know-how in business
and then there's "know why." Purpose is a powerful motivator on many levels,
says Jim Heskett. Can we aspire to a strong sense of "know why" even if our
organization is not out to change the world? What do you think?

Best of Faculty Q&As The Irrational Quest for Charismatic CEOs
http://hbswk.hbs.edu/item/3095.html
Companies reflexively look to charismatic CEOs to save them, and that's a bad
idea, says HBS professor Rakesh Khurana. In this excerpt from his book and in
an e-mail interview with HBS Working Knowledge conducted in 2002, he explains
how the CEO cult arose.
