Theindependenceseekersrealized,rightly,thatsuccessiveAssamGovts.sinceindependenceandtheircontrollersatNewDelhididnotcareorcouldnotdeliveriftheydid.Andwhenthepeopletooktothestreetsinprotest ,theygotshotat,brutalizedandimprisoned,almostalwayswithouttrial.THeIndianintelligentsia,soproudoftheir'democratic'government,wasnowheretobeseenrisinginprotestagainsttheirgovernmentshighlyundemocraticactions.Suchwasthesta teofIndianDemocracy.ThedisaffecteddecidedthatIndiangovernmentanditsagents,theAssamGovts.,wouldneverrespondtotheirneeds.Outofdesperationstheytooktoarms,tobreakfreefromIndianrule,andthus,am ongotherthings,re-shapetheirgovernmenttofittheirneeds:Political,economic,culturalandwhathaveyou.
