Hello Chitta

Thanks for liking our picture. It was a big thing for us to get such an
importance at The Hindu.

The queries were already answered by Mukulda.

1. It is not the largest river island in the world. *It is the largest
inhabited river island in the world.*

2. The status of island is currently on/off with the flooding/clogging
of-bunding of Kherkotia xuti. But you never know these bunds/temporary land
connections get washed away during flood or major channelisation of
Subansiri. The soil is deltoidal and alluvial.

Nonetheless, it is the heart of Vaishnavite culture. You must visit Majuli
once in your life. It will sort out snags in life. I saw many who got new
direction/meaning to their lives after visiting Majuli. It is my mamabari.
They were the Senapatis of Ratanpur Kingdom.

Dear Sri Pathak,
Hope you are addressing to me:
In any case I take it onto myself to clarify again:

Ans to Q1 "is Majuli really the biggest river
> island in the world?" --*NO, NOT AN ISLAND AT ALL.*

Ans.to <http://ans.to/> Q2 "Is Majuli> really a river island? --*NOT
really*!
As there is no XUTEE-originating from Brahmaputra and ending thereinto.
Ans to your assumption that *Kolong is a Xuti- No again.*
There is* no* Brahmaputra water flowing *into* The Kolong at near
Jakhalabondha--not in 2007,not in 2000.

If you want to study and learn about the real picture, please download
ISS Photo# ISS 005E 16433 which was taken on a cloudless day in OCT 2004 and
covered all Assam East of Bokakhat.
Therein you cannot fail to see the vast real *River Island *East of
Dibrugarh all the way to Sadiya. The South Xuti is the one digging up at
Rohmowria .And the *long one* created by the 2 streams of the Dihang from
Pasighat to Kobu.
There are about 10, 000 big and small River Islands in the
Dihang,Looit,Bornoi,Bhullung -Buthoor, Brohmoputro, Zomuna,Podda--- between
Pasighat and the Sea. You can count them all from ISS photos -now in Public
Domain--Kindness Russia /America.
And Bohaagor Wolog to all again
