History of Chutias released

 Duliajan, April 25 – While releasing the first-ever history of the Chutias on 
the open session of the Sati Sadhani Divas on Saturday last held centrally at 
Namrup, Dibrugarh district, organised centrally by All Chutia Jati Sanmilan 
with a two- day programme on April 20 and 21, the Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi 
stressed on the need of intregation of all the ethnic communities and tribes of 
the State for building a stronger Assam. The Chief Minister also told the 
gathering that without any history, no community or tribe can develop and march 
ahead. Besides, he appreciated the initiative of the Chutia Jati Sanmilan for 
publishing the first-ever history of the Chutias being edited by Dr Swarnalata 
Baruah and co- edited by Dr Dambarudhar Nath, both of History department of 
Dibrugarh University.

On the other hand, during the two-day programme of Sati Sadhani Divas, a demand 
has been brewing among the Chutias that the proposed bridge over river 
Brahmaputra at Bogibeel be named after Sati Sadhani honouring the sentiments of 
the Chutias and the demand was publicaly echoed by a former minister, Someswar 
Bora in the open session. Bora also demanded that the State government should 
declare a holiday on the occasion of Sati Sadhani Divas and also include the 
history of the Chutias in the syllabus of the State’s education.

The open session was also graced by the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly 
and local mla , Pranati Phukan, Sarat Saikia, mla and president of the All 
Chutia Jati Sanmilan, Dibrugarh MP , Sarbananda Sonowal and Tingkhong mla, Anup 
Phukan.The open session was inaugurated by the vc of Dibrugarh University, Dr 
Kulendu Pathak.

A cultural procession was brought out through the main thoroughfares of the 
fertiliser town.
