  Rongali Bihu celebrations in Kuwait
 GUWAHATI, May 24 – The Assamese community of Kuwait celebrated Rongali Bihu in 
Kuwait city on April 13 with a day-long programme. The morning event was 
organised at the Al-Fintas Park, where the Assamese families gathered for 
outdoor fun and games activities. The members were welcomed with a plateful of 
different varieties of pithas and other snacks prepared by the ladies.

The attraction of the morning was the innovative games devised by Santana and 
Sanjay Baruah. The children played the three-legged and potato-on-spoon races, 
the memory game, etc. There were lots of gifts for all the children and 
everyone returned a winner. The ladies raced and played the tekeli bhanga 
competition.

There were many winners in the tekeli bhanga competition, as the members and 
children cheered and guided the blindfolded ladies to the target.

The venue of the second part of the Rongali Bihu celebration in Kuwait was 
Caesars restaurant in Fahaheel. The programme started at 7.30 pm with lighting 
of the inaugural lamp by president of the Bihu Celebration Committee Mukut 
Narayan Debchoudhury and secretary Anup Bora which was followed by the 
president’s speech. Biresh Khaund took centre stage and set the programme of 
events rolling. 

The opening event of the programme was the chorus Srimoyee Asomir sung by 
ladies which, set the tone for the rest of the evening. The ladies again 
displayed their talent as they put up a scintillating performance of group bihu 
dance. This team of ladies comprised Santana Baruah, Mousumi Sharma, Masum 
Rajkhowa, Jeeta Khaund, Parimita Bora, Pranami Bhattacharya, Nilakshi Bora, 
Mamoni Gogoi and Bharati Sharma. The rendering of Assamese and Hindi solo songs 
by Anulupa Baruah, Mousumi Sharma and Aghore Bhattacharya accompanied by 
Shyamal Baruah and Abhijit Sharma on keyboard and guitar respectively kept the 
audience spellbound.

Bharati Sharma read out her Assamese composition relating the love and 
affection of one’s mother and the motherland.

The children amply demonstrated their talents by performing recitation, bihu 
dance, dancing to classical and modern songs, singing and playing instrumental 
music. Kimkim, Sneha, Juhi, Jubi, Mamta, Lira, Ronit, Arnab, Rimon, Rizwan, 
Kiki, Runjun, Ruhi, Prachi, Ainish, Khushi and Upasana put up their best 
performances and it was a treat to watch them perform. This was stated in a
