By Prafulla Gogoi and PG you must have meant Tarun Gogoi, the current chief
minister of Assam. Prafulla is a Mahanta and Gogoi is a Tarun.

  Anyway,

*** That Assam is getting far more from India than it own resources
could provide
( or something akin to that).
DD: Tarun Gogoi probably is talking about unexplored and underutilized
(natural?) resources. If resources are left where they are, sure India will
have to continue to support Assam. Did Gogoi include human resources also?

*** That there were one or two military excesses over innocent
civilians and that the military
          personnel were also punished .

DD: To Tarun Gogoi, most of the military actions must look justified,
including the ones against civilians, (with one or two excesses). What else
would you expect a chief minister to say? He is the one who calls in more and
more paramilitary force.

*** That the elections are the referendums,
DD: Referendum on what? The participation of the citizens in the election
definitely is not a referendum on the sovereignty issue. But it reflects the
desire of the citizens to participate in the electoral process as conducted
under the Indian constitution, ignoring ULFA's call to boycott election. If the
citizens also did not care for staying with India, they could have caused much
disruption by boycotting all elections in the last thirty years. Participation
in elections apparently has grown.

a page right out of Goerge W. Bush's infamous
retort to reporters' query on whether the American people continue to
support the Iraq war.
Difference is that GWB won't attempt that line any more, while PG has
the gall to do that, with
none of our 'intellectuals' challenging it.

Among the various things in the documentary, Prafulla Gogoi's comments were
what stunned me. I am
sure the editors of the documentary thought so too, to include them in the
highlights of his interview:

*** That Assam is getting far more from India than it own resources
could provide
( or something akin to that).

          personnel were also punished .

Each of the three above points are loaded comments that require a thorough
examination. I wonder what netters think.
