Rounds for teachers
http://www.uknow.gse.harvard.edu/teaching/TC103-607.html

Our "Research into Practice" feature highlights HGSE lecturer Steve Seidel and
the
lively Rounds for teachers initiative from Project Zero. As Seidel observes,
"There
is an enormous amount of data about teaching and learning in the things students
do and make, yet as educators and researchers, we rarely pay enough attention to
it." Borrowing a practice from medical education, this unique seminar series
helps
teachers gain insight into their students' work.

Social perspective taking: A multidimensional approach
http://www.uknow.gse.harvard.edu/teaching/TC104-607.html

Understanding the thoughts, feelings, and motivations of other people - social
perspective
taking - plays an important role in the classroom experience. It supports the
development
of social skills and academic learning. After years of working with students and
teachers, HGSE assistant professor Hunter Gehlbach is extending his research to
examine
the ways "experts" - such as trial lawyers and police detectives - carry out
perspective
taking. In an exclusive feature, Gehlbach invites Usable Knowledge readers to
test
their own perspective taking abilities.

Five Minds for the Future
http://www.uknow.gse.harvard.edu/teaching/TC106-607.html

The future, argues HGSE professor Howard Gardner, will require workers and
citizens
to demonstrate "out-of the box" and non-linear thinking to solve increasingly
complex
challenges. In his new book, Five Minds for the Future, Gardner describes five
kinds
of minds, or ways of thinking and acting, that he believes 21st century
educators
should cultivate. Three are related to intellect: the disciplined, synthesizing
and
creative minds; two emphasize character: the respectful and ethical minds. In an
article and video clips drawn from a recent lecture, Gardner describes what it
means
to exhibit these types of minds.
