Govt instigating AAMSU, says Sonowal

DIBRUGARH, Aug 4 – Dibrugarh MP Sarbananda Sonowal has termed the reported
fatwa issued against AASU leader Sammujjal Bhattacharya by the Assam Madrassa
Students’ Association (AMSA) and the All Assam Minority Students’ Union’s
(AAMSU) alleged provocative call to drive out the indigenous people from the
districts of Dhubri, Goalpara and Barpeta as dangerous, believing it could
ignite communal tension in the state. The reported fatwa issued by AMSA,
prohibiting AASU leader Sammujjal Bhattacharya from entering the Barak Valley
is the second shock to the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), besides others in last few
days after AAMSU’s provocative statement made recently. In a swift press meet
called at its party office here, the AGP along with its MP Sonowal sought to
condemn the excess of the two minority organisations.

The student leader-turned-politician described it as a conspiracy, wished-for
destruction of the unity among the peace loving multi-religious and ethnic
communities of the state. “It is a clear attack on the ‘Sankar-Madhav’-founded
peaceful Assam,” Sonowal asserted, adding, the antisocials were making
deliberate attempts to alter and tamper with the prestigious history of Assam.
“However, all such bid will be challenged,” said Sonowal.

Taking a dig into the Congress-led state government, Sonowal questioned the
Chief Minister as to how antisocial elements were gaining strength and courage
under the Congress regime when it was claiming to be pro-Assamese. “Why is the
state government sitting cool when terror has been hurled in succession by a
few minority organisations?” Sonowal asked. He categorically alleged that these
incidents could to have been instigated by the state government.
