BRO takes up restoration of flood-ravaged NH 52

Itanagar, Aug 9: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has taken up massive
restoration works of NH 52, devastated by recent flood fury.
756 BRTF Commander U K Pandey told media that about three km of the 397 km
NH, lifeline for upper Asom and Arunachal Pradesh, was washed away in the
recent flash floods in Kumtia river.
The BRO under the supervision of 756 BRTF had already repaired about 2.5 km
of the road and the traffic at 110 ft Bailey bridge would be restored within a
week, he said.
The damaged Bordolini and Kumatia Bridge would take three months to be
restored, he added.
The laid down plan included restoration of the flow of freshly breached bundh
on upstream side of Kumatia Bridge, which had never breached in the past, to
reach the proposed Bailey bridge near Baradaloni.
''The woes of Dhemaji can be lessened if the ferocious Jiadhol river on the
upstream of railway track is tamed,'' he stated adding that a proper bund on
Jiadhol river at the foot hills of Arunachal is a must to channelise the water
as well as de-silt downstream for safe passage of flood water to the main
river, he observed.
