AILING FORMER MLA NAREN TANTI CREIES OUT FOR HELP
Jorhat 9th August:-"Would the people of assam help me just a bit?", this is
the heart rending cry of the former AGP MLA Naren Tanti, who is currently
undergoing treatment for multiple disorder at tyhe guwahati medical college and
hospital.He has been diagonised as having friedrich's Ataxia a degenerative
condion of the brain and nervous system,apart from a number of other ailements
like diabetes and nero-muscular weakness.Tanti, now 47,has bad-ridden for over
a decade.
Naren Tanti first emerged as a firebrand leader from the tea tribes
during the anti-foreigners agitation of the early 1980's, and took paet in
several rounds of talks between the AASU and the central
government.Subsequently, he served as the MLA from the Mariani constituency in
the first assam gana parishad ministry under Prafulla Kumar Mahanta(1985-90).
Now sick, frail and improvenished, this once dynamic leader has been all but
forgotten by the people he served in the past.Tanti's dilapidated home in the
Mohbondha tyea estate bears testimony to the integrity with which he served out
his term in the power.While help from well wishers and benifactors has been
tricling in, it has not been to the extend reqired.
The responsibilioty of helping Tanti by raising funds for his treatments
has been taken up by the NGO Karna.The NGO has arranged publicity,organized
donations drives and set up Naren Tanti treatment fund with a State Bank Saving
accuount(No.30184621480 in the name of Parth Pratim Borthakur).The members of
Karna have appealed to the people to donate generously to help the former
student leader and his family.For further clarification regarding
