                 ' Assam-Nagaland Border March'--- One-Day Drama

It is reported that the AASU planed to take out a march on Thurs, Aug 9,
2007, from Tsutapela Gate to New Chuntia along the Mariani- Mokokchung Road
which was foiled by the Police force. It is hoped that the Assam Police would
show the same vigour in checking intrusion from Naga encroachers. Infact, of
late, encroachers have turned more of scheming, ruthless marauders.
Also, the AASU members must be knowing that there is no point of
staging such one-day drama like taking out a procession to the inter-state
border. For, after the much-hyped event is over, these 'walkers' in processions
would leave the area, again to be tresspassed by armed intruders. Do they plan
long term measures like settling in the Asam-Nagaland border areas ? The
problem needs lasting solution----

1. If the Nagaland Government is giving a helping hand to Naga encroachers
in order to encroach Asam territory, why can't the Asam Government too
ensure that border villages are set up as 'human fencing' ?
Thousands of people belonging to the Bodo
and
Karbi community of the State are languishing in the refugee camps.
Numerous farmers have been rendered landless by floods. If only the
Asam Government makes a move to settle them in the areas of
Assam-Nagaland border, a formidable force along the border
comprising the Native population o f the State would be created
to resist the problem of Naga encroachment.

2. Police outposts have to be equipped with better connectivity. The State
needs leaders who have a vision to make use of Information Technology for
Defense apart from its use in the education and service sector. In short,
better connectivity is the pre-requisite for protection of border
territories.
This connectivity can be achieved by means of well-connected roads to
interior places, setting up police or defense outposts near the villages
and
connecting the village councils to the outposts through telephones,
mobiles and internet (for which rural electrification is the foundation
stone).
To achieve this, the people at the helm of affairs have to be
sincere
committed and far-sighted--- elements which are lacking in the political
leaders of the Asam. No doubt, this has added fuel to the three burning
problems of Asam --- Influx (from Bangladesh), Insurgency, Intrusion (by
    Nagaland).
Ironically, the self-proclaimed 'saviours' of the
State, i.e.,
the 28 years old ULFA (United 'Liberation' Front of Asom) has maintained a
stoic silence regarding these issues, leave taking up any concrete step.

Yours etc.,

Mrinmoy Barua,

Navagraha Path,
