Dear Uttamda and Sandip Castes have been used by politicians to create their own pockets, niches and banks of influence. It's true that certain castes had starting advantage after independence due to lead in education and exposure and enjoyed or rather cornered the spoils of state's resources, jobs, etc. But with education reaching out everyone is almost at par now. Reservations and myriads of such instruments have made opportunities available to even the down trodden. There too, a particular group or the ones who got early entry are cornering the opportunities from their fellow members.
In south being a Brahmin is a great disadvantage, as one of my Tamil friend tells. History repeats and there is a class of sufferer available all the time in a multi ethnic society like ours. It's a group dynamics and struggle for survival. The smartest dominates. Being fixed to a particular strata by birth is real frustrating and demeaning to human life. But one has always the option to die as someone else..say like a Muslim, Buddhist, Christian or as a member of Srimanta Sankaraadeva Sangha :) -manoj On 10/18/07, Chan Mahanta <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > At 2:44 AM -0700 10/18/07, SANDIP DUTTA wrote: > > Very well said Manoj da.
