Govt to make tech-education industry oriented

The Government is planning to establish 1500 new Industrial Training 
Institutes, ITIs across the country to promote technical education and meet the 
demand of skilled labour force. Addressing a meeting of National Council for 
Vocational training in Delhi, the Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Mr. 
Oscar Fernandes said that there are plans to make technical education industry 
oriented and private sector should share some of the burdens on this front. He 
said, the priority for setting up the ITIs would be given to the State 
Governments at district, Block and City levels. The Minister said, in 500 ITIs 
world class education will be imparted by making them centers of excellence. He 
said, the move will also get the support of the World Bank.
The Minister said that the percentage of trained labour in India is between 2 
to 5 percent where as in the developed nations the ratio is between 50 to 90 
percent. The Government is focusing on increasing the percentage to 50 per cent 
in near future.
