I remember kite flying in Shillong in the early 1950s. With the windy days, it was great fun, especially running after kites that have been "Bokattha", that is in the fight between two kites, when one is cut, we used to shout "Bokattha". My uncles, Tarun Hazarika and Kamal Hazarika were expert kite flyers. The word Bokattha is I think from the Hindi phrase "Woh Kata". I am not sure kite flying is much popular in Assam, I rarely see them nowdays.
