  JAMUGURIHAT, March 8 – ‘Khoj’, a premier women’s socio-cultural educational 
voluntary organisation of Sootea, successfully organised a day-long talent 
search examination among the children of Sonitpur district at Sootea, on 
February 17.

As part of the examination, competitions on general knowledge and drawing and 
painting were held on that day where 72 children took part. While child Powel 
Hazarika opened the competition with lighting of lamp, Chayarani Kataky, 
president of the ‘Khoj’ explained the aims and objective of the NGO along with 
the rules and regulation of the competition.

The competition was organised in two groups A and B and in group A 
(drawing/painting), Subhrajit Seal, Jaya Barua and Raktima Barua secured first, 
second and third positions respectively.

In the same group, in general knowledge, Priya-darshini Saikia and Jaya Barua 
secured first, Priyam Saikia and Subhrajit Seal second and third prizes 
respectively.

In group ‘B’ in drawing and painting, Arindam Bhattacharya was placed in first, 
Prajnamita Saikia second and Arup Kumar Barua in third position.

In general knowledge Upasana Koch and Prajnamita Saikia secured first, Bishal 
Kataky and Pranajyoti Barua second and Nayansikha Baruah third prize.

A programme of tree plantation in the campus of Block Resource Centre 
Co-ordination office, Sarva Siksha Abhijan was also undertaken on that day.

It may be noted here that ‘Khoj’ was established by a group of women to create 
educational, social, political, economical and health awareness among the rural 
women and to maintain the balance of nature.

The organisation has in the meantime undertaken many such activities 
successfully where stress on preservation of wildlife, maintenance of health 
and hygiene, physical, mental and spiritual development of women-folk and 
children were laid. It is going to organise AIDS awareness programme in south 
Sootea area, where uneducated and poor people are living, in the near future, 
it is learnt. Such benevolent activities of ‘Khoj’ has been praised by the 
people.
