i didn't qualify even if I put my salary as US $60,000 in the US but if someone
is below 30 years of age then it can work. Earlier I tried with a Harvard MBA
and salary more than 40,000 pounds (about US$ 80,000) and got 155 points
compared to needed 75 points.

a Harvard MBA itself earns you 75 points!! - you don't need anything else.

For someone in India it seems one needs about Rs 800,000 per year (US$ 20,000)
to equal the highest salary bracket (above 40,000 pounds or US$80,000) - as per
the website's qualifications. If you have MBA from a top US or European Univ
then extra points.

I had gone to Cherry Blossom fest in DC with an old roommate of mine and was
told me that he was thinking of going to work in the UK after working for 4
years in the US. The reason he told me was that in the UK if you get work
visa/permit then after 5 years of being on that visa you become a permanent
resident/Green Car staright away. And you don't need an employer to sposor you
to get the work visa - just based on getting enough points -- based on your
age, educational qualifications and earning power. Surprisingly the website has
extra points if you have an MBA from a top univ --esp if degree is from the UK.

Earning power requirement is different for different countries - for example if
you earn $60,000 per year in the US it would get you same points as would a
salary of Rs600,000 ($15,000) in India. Quite remarkable - it is quite similar
to Canadian system. Australia has a similar system - he told me.

Surprisingly today is this new article that the requirement has been changed a
bit - on the UK work visa u can work initially for 3 years instead of 2 as
previously allowed.
