Assam project to be set up for Rs 25,000 cr:

Guwahati, Apr 17, 2008 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- -- The Assam gas
cracker project, expected to generate about 1,00,000 employment, will be set up
by 2011-12 at an annual investment of Rs 25,000 crore in the next five years,
Minister of State for Industry Ashwani Kumar said today.

This, Rs 25,000 crore in five years would be a huge capital investment for
the project and provide a boost to the economy of the state, Kumar told
reporters after a meeting the state Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

On the 2007 new investment policy for the North East, the minister on his
maiden visit to the state, said capital subsidy has been doubled from the
present 15 per cent to 30 per cent which would amount to Rs 30 crore.
Kumar said to stop young professionals from the northeastern region to serve
outside, IT and IT enabled service sectors would be expanded.

Following pressures from the state government, he said, the Centre had
decided to take up flood control and soil erosion programmes for protection of
Asia's biggest river island Majuli.

Stressing on the need to create a conducive atmosphere for private investment
into the region, Kumar said NTPC's 750 MW coal-based power project would be set
up by 2012.

Kumar complemented Gogoi for hastening economic growth in the state which had
helped its GDP to grow from a 2.6 per cent six years back to 6.5 per cent at
present.

Gogoi said the state was making steady industrial progress and would soon
have a bio-tech park at Mirza near here.
