Dear All:

I know this is quite a long letter that I've written in a while. Please take
some time to read on, it's a project that would open a small window to the
world for the less privileged but very much well deserved children of the
society.

As some of you might know, we have initiated a small library project in Assam.
The library is located in Parijat Academy, Pamohi, in Gorchuk, near Guwahati.
Remember Uttam Teron, the compassionate young man of Pamohi who started the
school for the children from that village? Well, it is their library.

Wahid-da (Wahid Saleh), who is also tirelessly working on some wonderful
proects for the school and the people of the village, was kind enough to put
the pictures that Ankur and Uttam took of the library into this album:

We started the Nitin Bezbaruah Sarangapani Library, in January of this year,
and we are glad to announce that the library has already started functioning.
At present it is a one room, RCC structure, with shelves, a few tables and
enthusiastic children of Parijat Academy.

In January, we had taken some books, puzzles, number blocks and other materials
from here. We then bought many reference books for the library at Guwahati
itself. We were also able to stock the library with maps, globes, and a few
other things.

Our ultimate goal is to be able to provide some good learning resources through
the NBS Library for children and also the communities in Pamohi.

As some of you already know, the Academy is managed ably by Uttam Teron, his
family, and a few dedicated teachers. The Academy was first introduced to us
by Ankur Bora of Dallas. Ankur has been doing enormous things for Parijat
Academy. The school now has over 400 students, and could be a model that ought
to be replicated all over Assam.

If you are interested in helping to build this library, we will be grateful:

1) Send books from here. Jugal (Kalita) gave us some excellent ideas
sometime ago. It seems one can send books through the US Post Office at very
cheap rates. This is bulk mail, which takes about 6 months to reach, but the
costs are about a 1 $ a lb. Jugal has tested this out and the books reach safe.
It’s a bit slow, but worth it at that price.

The library needs children’s books. It is important that the books are fairly
new and not outdated, and they would immediately appeal to the young
readership, and/or will support the curriculum for students from KG - 8th grade.
It will be nice if people could send a few books when they can. The mailing
costs should not be more than $10 or so.

Parijat Academy's address is given below:
