Great achievement
The recently declared results of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)
examination have enough reasons to make the State proud. This time a total of
four candidates from the State has cleared the coveted civil services
examinations. Nabanita Chakrabarti of Guwahati, Nayanjyoti Nath of Jamugurihat,
Rahul Kotoky of Sivasagar and Neelabh Roy Dasgupta of Nagaon will soon be a
part of the countrys elite civil administration. Nabanita Chakrabartis
performance in the examinations has become the icing on the cake of success for
the State. She had secured the 16th position in the UPSC examinations. To
figure amongst the top 20 by itself is a great achievement. This years result
has once again brought to the fore that there is no dearth of talent in the
State. What is needed is proper guidance, encouragement and motivations. But
sadly enough the State is lagging far behind so far as training and guidance to
the aspirants is concerned.
As in the other years, this year too, the successful candidates had their
higher education outside the State. The lack of a proper academic environment
also stands in the way of the aspirants who want to prepare for the civil
services examination. Unless there is a change in the education scene in the
State, the prospective aspirants would have no way out but to go to places like
New Delhi to get proper training to crack the UPSC examination. On their part
the four successful candidates have once again highlighted that there are no
short cuts for success. It is hard work, and perseverance. They were focussed
on their goal and didnt allow setbacks to stand in their way. Incidentally it
was in her fourth attempt in the UPSC examination Nabanita figured in the
coveted top 20 list. This years results should inspire more aspirants to vie
for civil service examinations. For the benefit of the prospective candidates,
the State on its part should set up centres in different areas
to provide adequate training. A proper academic environment is also a must to
motivate the students of the State to prepare themselves and appear in
competitive examinations.
