The High School Leaving Certificate Examination 2008 (Assam) results are out,
and the journalists have not forgotten to highlight the gender schism with
headlines screaming about boys doing better than girls.
The best position went to Oxom Jatiyo Bidyaloy's Shri M. Bujarbaruah. I am
told that he speaks faultless and lucid oxomiya, instead of the pidgin that
most of the 'literate' oxomiya of the towns and suburbs speak today. This
speaks volumes about the school in Guwahati that has withered the english
onslaught.
I find it quite intriguing that of late astro-physics has caught the
imagination of the natun oxomiya. This boy, Shri Bujarbaruah too wants to be an
astro-physicist, and it is also reported that Mr. U. Tahbildar of Florida has
been inspiring him. This recent interest may have grown out of the media
publicity that quite a few 'oxomiya deka lora' got in the last couple of years
by getting into NASA. Such interest may have also been generated by Shri Jiten
Goswami, Director, National Physical Laboratory, Ahmedabad, being a leader in
the Chandrayan, India's first mission to the moon.
There may be some other reason for this upsurge in astral desire that I could
not even imagine. What could those be?
