More seats for Assam

A STAFF REPORTER

Guwahati, July 1: Dispur has decided to increase 300 engineering seats in Assam
to compensate for the loss of seats outside the state once the new admission
policy to National Institutes of Technology (NIT) is enforced.
At a meeting of officials of the higher and technical education department,
chaired by chief minister Tarun Gogoi, last evening, it was decided that the
combined number of seats in Jorhat Engineering College and Assam Engineering
College, which is an NIT, would be increased from 590 to 890. Dispur will move
AICTE immediately with the proposal.
