Seminar to foster exchange of info on NE Tai studies
 GUWAHATI, July 14 – A three-day international seminar on ‘Ethnics of North 
East India’ is being organised by Eastern Tai Literary Association, Purbanchal 
Tai Sahitya Sabha in collaboration with Tai Literary and Cultural Council, 
Society for Traditional Knowledge and Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia College of 
Guwahati starting February 15 next.

The theme of the seminar include all the ethnic tribes of North East India, 
including all Tai ethnics like Ahom, Khamti, Phake, Aiton, Turung, Khamyang and 
others of SE Asia, Southern China and all the tribal ethnics and non-tribal 
ethnics of North East India along with others in eastern Indian provinces, and 
also of Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh etc.

Interested scholars may contribute papers on their history, culture, 
literature, language, politics, economics and other aspects of north eastern 
Indian ethnics. Papers are invited from the disciplines of college and 
university teachers and other scholars. 

The objectives of the seminar is to encourage interaction and exchange of 
knowledge among scholars working in the field of northeastern Indian ethnics, 
both in the country and abroad, to focus importance of Tai studies and tribal 
studies in Northeast India and to create a congenial atmosphere of friendship 
and cooperation to advance ethnic studies among scholars and academicians.

Papers are required to reach the convenor before September 30, 2008 and 
one-page typed abstract with the title and full address of the scholar should 
reach before August 30, 2008. Circulars and formal invitation letters would be 
issued immediately after the arrival of interested participants’ letters 
seeking participation.
