On a slightly different note, we keep hearing that China has basically overspent for the show (I think $70 B), and that it will run at a loss. In the long run, it should however make it all up.
I agree with you about India though. India has only a "wish list" and a lot of chest-thumping going around. But when it actually comes to putting on a show, be it the Olympics, or even winning some medals, it does not have the will. There are a host of other problems....from lack of good infrastructure to rampant, runaway corruption. The only defense regarding China putting up a great show is that it is a Communist country. India, on the other hand has a system that seems to be rotting from the inside out - hence nothing substantive gets done. I was able to glimpse a few minutes of the Opening ceremony. The Indian contingent looked pathetic. --Ram On Sat, Aug 9, 2008 at 4:03 AM, Jyotirmoy Sharma <[EMAIL PROTECTED] > wrote: > Wow! just couldn't take my eyes off the TV last night for the opening > ceremony. > Was disgusted to see the Indian contingent dress up as if they were going > to > attend a wedding with those Punjabi suits and Bata chappals( be it leather > ). > Couldn't the IOA( Indian Olympic Ass... ) even afford some blazers and > pants > for our deserving athletes?
