Paresh alone can’t decide fate of State
Correspondent
NALBARI, Aug 22 – In order to expedite the much awaited talks between the ULFA
and the Central Government, the Sanmilita Jatia Abhivartan today organised a
district-level convention at Nalbari Natya Mandir and mounted pressure on the
Central Government to release the arrested ULFA leaders in the interest of
peace
talks.

Inaugurating the district convention, the chief convenor of the Sanmilita Jatia
Abhivartan Dr Hiren Gohain said that as the ULFA now lost its mass support,
they
should come forward for talks without preconditions. He, however, admitted that
the Centre is not interested to realise the problems faced by the common people
in the State. “Even the Assamese people can’t place the problems before the
Central Government without an agitation,” he added. Dr Gohain further stated
that the Jatia Abhivartan is not in favour of ULFA or Central Government, it is
only raising the voice of common indigenous people of the State.

The chief convenor also said that the North Cachar issue taught us the lesson
that the insurgent groups in the State derails from their ideology and the
political parties involved in corruption. To compell the Central Government to
continue the peace process, Dr Gohain called upon the people to strengthen
their
voice unitedly.

Dr Gohain said that the ULFA commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah who initially
attacked the process of Jatia Abhibartan later rectified his views. He strongly
raised his voice that the ULFA C-in-C Paresh Baruah alone can’t decide the
future of Assam. “The common people will decide everything about the fate of
the
State,” he said.

Addressing the meeting, another convenor Dr Nirmal Kumar Chaudhury in his
speech
said that negotiation that started between the ULFA and Central Government was
the only solution to bring back peace and normalcy in the State. He said that
Paresh Baruah was also in favour of negotiation because he formed the PCG to
expedite the talk process. “The Central Government should not delay the peace
process”, Chaudhury added.

The convention presided over by Ramani Barman was addressed by Hiranya Kumar
Bhattacharya and Dilip Patgiri.

The convention decided to hold public meeting at various places of the district
to create opinion in favour of peace talk.
