How can the Govt accept joint patrol inside territory it claims to be it's own? ( Today's Sentinel and Assam Tribune ) Shouldn't the Assam Govt be claiming compensation from Arunachal for the police outpost and the houses destroyed? It's very well to maintain amicable relations with your neighbours, but at what cost? The Arunachal Govt have got what they seeked - made Saraipung look like a disputed area. All the while Arunachal has been dismissing the role of NSCN, hinting indirectly that it's own people were involved in the border trouble. It even agreed to pay for the medical expenses of their injured. Has Arunachal reciprocated, agreeing to pay for the misdeeds of its' residents ?
Once again, the usual rhetoric "no inch of Assam's land will be given" was heard from the Govt. When the time came for tough actions, nothing happened. The Assam Govt merely aceepted Arunachal's terms. In a few days time, Assam police will be removed from the border, more land will be encroached, more people from Arunachal will settle inside Assam and claim it to be their own. It is no surprise that the Nagaland and Arunachal Govt work hand in hand with their people( inlcuding insurgents ) in their expansion motives because of a weak Assam Govt. The people of Assam should not be fooled by these peace meetings and empty promises.
