The Eastern Beats Music Society is
a group of musicians, writers, artistes, journalists, theatre workers,
sportsmen and working professionals from various disciplines brought
together by the love for music and the Arts. Formed with the basic
objective of promoting good musical forms and local talents, the society
has been working towards bridging the gap between different musical
genres and art forms. The basic objective of the society is to instil
the love for Arts and a spirit of receptiveness towards new ideas and
Art forms among the people of the region.
The Eastern Beats Music Society is made up by some of the most talented
and creative artistes of Northeast India. The all-encompassing reach and
outlook of the society can be gauged from the fact that it has reached
out to as many as three generations of musicians and artistes of the
region.
The healing power of music and the Arts is something which the society
wants to exploit. We have been behind many radical initiatives like
�FREEDOM JAM 2009� in Guwahati to protest the band culture on
Independence Day, the Karbi Anglong Beats Contest 2009 to protest the
October 30 serial blasts in Guwahati, Guwahati Rock community concert,
October Jam � the first public jamming session for musicians in
Guwahati, Fireball � one of the biggest rock concerts of the country,
countless gigs in pubs and other venues, and many more.
Research work and World Music is another thrust area of the Eastern
Beats Music Society. While most of us would like to believe that our
rich traditions are almost on the verge of extinction, the fact remains
that it has already become extinct in many places. Headed by renowned
tribal folk musicologists and research activists, the society is
actively looking into the development and promotion of �world music�.
Besides jamming sessions, gigs, quizzes and musical concerts, the
society also has a publication wing to look into the documentation of
the regional music scene, besides chronicling musical, art and literary
events and trends of the region. The first issue of the annual
publication, �Northeast Beats�, had been very warmly received by members
of the global music community. The second issue is due for release
later this year.
