Dear
Mayur
I've read your article with great interest. It was well written . So thank
you for sharing. You have rightly said about Kalpana Lazmi's contribution in
Bhupen Hazarika's life. She might be a little egocentric. But the way people
react here It shows that some where down the line our feudal mind is not
ready to accept a Life Partner like her for BH, just like the Benglali who
do not want to recognize Subhas Basu's wife and family.

Another point I wan to raise , does not He led a coultural movement
throughout India? Does he done everything for Assam and Assamese? Bhupen
Hazarika's film and music in any language be it in Hindi or in Bengali is it
self a separate Gharana. Don't you think so.

In Bengali there were no doubt many maestros. But, three singers can be
singled out separately . Hemanga, Salil and Bhupen. Hemanga sang a few song.
Most of the Salil Choudhury song sang by others like Hemanta, Lata or
Sabita. But, all the Bhupen Hazarika sang by the Maestro himself. After that
many singers like Ruma Guha Thakurata, Runa Layla or others remade these
songs. And so people can identify his songs easily. They are unique not only
for their lyrics , but for style and techniques . I'm sure No Bengali ( Be
they Indian or Bengladesh) will ever be able to forget his songs. He is not
one among hundreds others Bengali musicians . Rather he himself was an
establishment.

Should we forget Bhupen Hazarika's such a vast contribution to the Indian
cultural arena ? I think if we do so, we'll only size him down. So, I'd
request you and others to focus in these points in any future write up.
