TEZPUR, Feb 1 – “In this age of globalisation, to compete abroad, one must
begin with the competition at home. We need to win with better quality, skills,
innovation and reliability. Not to talk about the industrial sector, even
involvement of NRIs in a few sensitive sectors like education of children and
women and health-related issues can bring about a noticeable change in a short
span of time.” This was stated by Dr Karuna Sagar Das, an NRI Assamese from the
UK on Friday while realeasing the 12th edition of the Luit to Thames at the
Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha auditorium at the Tezpur University.

The Luit To Thames is a unique creation of the efforts made by Dr Das in 1999.
The planning for his literary magazine started at a time when the Assamese
people living around the globe were reaffirming their commitment to develop and
offer their services to their motherland. “It was really a transitional period
when the NRI Assamese community in the UK wanted to establish the Asam Sahitya
Sabha, Great Britain branch in 1998,” Dr Das said while giving his welcome
address before the release of the bilingual annual magazine, adding that the
Luit To Thames is not simply a book or a general magazine but is a compilation
of noble efforts by dedicated NRI Assamese settled in the UK to bridge the gap
between the Assamese people of Assam and those living abroad.

Releasing the magazine, vice chancellor Dr Mihir Kanti Choudhury appreciated
the whole team of the editorial board including chief editor Dr Karuna Sagar
Das, Dr Srutimala Duara and Amlandeep Das among others for paving the way to
maintain a relationship between the Assamese people living in Assam and those
living abroad through the Luit To Thames over the last 12 years.

The function was attended by Registrar Alak Buragohain, professors of all the
departments of the university and its student community .
