Assamese litterateur named for nat'l award,

JORHAT: Assamese litterateur P C Tamuly has been named for a national award for 
popularizing science and technology among children. Tamuly is the editor of two 
kids' magazines " Mouchaq" and " Natun Awiskar".

The National Council for Science and Technology Communication, which is under 
the department of science and technology, is sponsoring the award which carries 
an amount Rs 1 lakh, a memento and citation. The award will be conferred on 
Tamuly at a function to be held in New Delhi on February 28.

"I'm very happy for being selected for the award which is conferred by the 
central government by selecting individuals or institutions for extraordinary 
contribution in the field of science and technology communication over the last 
five years," said Tamuly. Besides being the editor of "Mouchaq" and "Natun 
Awiskar", Tamuly has been involved in science writings for the last 50 years.

In 1967, he won the national award for children's literature for his novel 
"Mani Bani aru akhon Phulani" from the NCERT. In 1974, he was again selected by 
NCERT for a national award for his popular science book "Sarishrip".
