Centre offers aid to set up polytechnics

GUWAHATI, Feb 27: The Government of India has extended a financial 
aid of Rs 12.3 crore for setting up of new polytechnics in 21 districts 
of Assam. This was conveyed by Union Human Resource Development Minister
 Kapil Sibal in a letter written to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi recently.
 
The Government of India has already selected Dhubri, Goalapara, 
Barpeta, Nalbari, Darrang, Morigaon, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, 
Tinsukia, Sibsagar, Dima Hasao, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Udalguri, 
Chirrang, Baska, Kamrup rural, Nagaon, Golaghat and Karbi Anglong 
districts for setting up of new polytechnics as per the request of the 
State Government. Chief Minister Gogoi has directed the concerned 
department to take necessary action for allotment of land free of cost 
and to provide fund for 100 per cent recurring expenditure to facilitate
 early setting up of the proposed polytechnics in those districts under 
the Coordinated Action for Skill Development scheme.
