Gogoi to take oath as CM today

 GUWAHATI,
 May 17 – Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was unanimously re-elected as the 
leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in the CLP meeting held 
in the Assam Assembly premises today.Assam
 Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhubaneswar Kalita read out
 the resolution, while senior Congressman Bhumidhar Barman proposed 
Tarun Gogoi’s name as the CLP leader followed by few other senior 
leaders.The 
proposal was unanimously accepted by the newly-elected members of the 
Assam Legislative Assembly, who raised their hands in approval of the 
proposal. Immediately
 after his re-election, Gogoi appealed to all the newly-elected Members 
of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to guard against complacency and work for
 the development of the common man.Gogoi,
 while addressing the MLAs, said that the onus is now on the Congress 
party to live up to the expectations of the people of Assam, who have 
voted it to power for the third consecutive term.“The
 focal areas would be continued development and conciliation 
activities,” he said, adding, “Economic development, unemployment and 
restoring peace would be the key areas.”“There
 should be no room for complacency as it had happened so many times with
 the Congress party in the past. The responsibility has increased 
manifold for us,” Gogoi said.Gogoi’s swearing-in ceremony will take place at 
Raj Bhavan tomorrow.Gogoi
 also expressed his gratitude towards the Government employees who have 
worked hard in successfully implementing the Government schemes.Earlier,
 seasoned politician and Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee 
commented that the voters of Assam have shown the right places to the 
opposition parties, who played communal card and instability tactics to 
secure power.“The
 people of Assam, this time, have voted for continuity and conciliation 
and Tarun Gogoi deserves all the credit for that,” he pointed out. All
 India Congress Committee general secretary Digvijay Singh, who was also
 the election in-charge of Assam for the Assembly election, said that 
the challenge before the new Government in the next five years would be 
to perform better than what it had done in the last two terms together. 
 The Congress secured clear mandate in the recently announced results of the 
Assam Assembly election.
