That was a sunny day of 1972.A book shop was started in New Market,
Dibrugarh.Gradually it has grown up and that tiny seedling becomes a full grown
tree. It has spread its branches and in 1991 a branch office was started in
Guwahati Panbazar with an aim to serve Assamese literature and Assamese reader
more seriously. Almost Four decades have passed and now that small book shop
has been counted among one of the aristocratic and huge publication houses in 
Assam today.

In the glorious journey of 38 years BANALATA has been
serving the nation continuously and in the coming days it has a vision of
better serving the people by publishing rare manuscripts, classic
books(translation) and other books having social values. It also has a vision
of encouraging the new young generation writers by publishing their works.

Throughout the years, BANALATA have established and nurtured scores of
writers who have now become legends in the world of Assamese literature. Few of
the  authors have won several prestigious
awards in the world of Indian literature like the Gyanpeeth and the Sahitya
Akademi Awards.
