Assam Birding Society ( http://www.assambird.com ) :
India with more than 1250 species of birds, is a paradise for bird
watching. There are over 925 breeding species (~920 residents). The
Indian birds belong to 25 groups called 'Orders', which are further
divided into 'Families', 'Sub-families' and 'Genera'. For birding in
India, 13 bio-geographical regions can be demarcated: Trans Himalayan,
Western Himalayas, Eastern Himalayas, Desert, Semi-arid, Gangetic plain,
Central India, Deccan Plateau, Western Ghats, Eastern Ghats, North
East, Coasts and the Andaman Nicobar Islands. The Blue Peafowl (Pavo
cristatus), also known as the Blue Peacock, is the national bird of
India.
Assam Birding Society strives to conserve birds and their habitats. We
work with people to ensure the sustainable use of natural resources. We
are a registered non-profit, public benefit environmental organization
and a dedicated bird-conservation organisation in Assam, India.
We believe that the conservation of wetlands and forestation programs in
Assam to restore and preserve ecological balance that is so much
essential for preservation birds’ habitats.
The involvement of many nature lovers and bird watchers will definitely
help in organize birding tours, orientation and training programs to
create awareness about birds.
We wish that the upcoming generation inherits a world where nature is in
its full glory with chirping of birds. We strive to create awareness so
that ever expanding population and climate changes does not become a
threat to habitats for birds, both local and migratory.
