Hazards of journalism: Assam is the most dangerous state in the country

India remains a dangerous country for journalists and even more so for those
working in the northeastern state of Assam. While 27 journalists have been
killed across India in two decades, Assam alone has lost more than 20
journalists and nobody has been convicted in any of these cases.
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), an international media rights body
has recently disclosed that 864 working journalists around the world have been
killed in different incidents since 1992. The New York-based media rights body
also revealed that India is among the 13 risky countries where governments are
unable or unwilling to prosecute the killers.
