Dear Netters:

Kashmir is a pain in the neck of India both internally and externally. I have fished out a letter from today's International Herald Tribune (17 8 2011) to
show how India's relations with her neighbours appear to others.

TERS TO THE INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUNE
Kashmir Is the Key
Published: August 16, 2011

Regarding your editorial (“India and Pakistan make progress,” Aug. 3): All the meetings and conferences are useless without finding a solution to the Kashmir dispute.

Unfortunately, the foreign policy elites in Washington have not understood the importance of Kashmir to the people of Pakistan, as well as to its military.

The Pakistani Army, after having suffered two defeats over Kashmir, will never give up its use of militants to counter India in Kashmir. India, meanwhile, creates as much havoc as possible in Afghanistan and in Pakistan’s restless tribal areas and — all to counter Pakistan. This adds to the continuing turmoil in Afghanistan.

Fariborz S. Fatemi,
