Dear Netters:
Today I am not only posting an advertisement (not really!) but adding a
short biography of a female entrepreneur mentioned in that advert.
Today’s Metro devotes an entire tabloid page to advertising the
forthcoming National PA Day 2011 to be held on 15 & 16th September 2011
at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London. Entry is free as long as
the participant pre-registers online. The PA stands for Personal
Assistants. On the opening night of Thursday there is also a glitzy,
invitation only event ‘After Dark Reception’ at the Planet Hollywood
London. For this also pre-registration is called for. Read the whole
advertisement (to me this appears to be a feature rather than
advertising). if you want to have more information.,please go to:

There are PAs and PAs. I can write a few lines describing the kind of
PAs I had
occasion to know. Yes, I will at some time in the future. In the
instant case, I felt I must know more about Michelle Mone OBE, who
will grace the occasion by
sharing her experience and expertise with today’s secretaries waiting
to reach the top
Michelle Mone was born and brought up in the East End of Glasgow,
Scotland. She started as a model, then joined a sales and marketing
team. She was then made redundant. In the meantime she also gave birth
to her second child. That was in 1996 and the same year she went to a
party and experienced much discomfort with the bra she was wearing.
She then and there decided to design a bra which would be more
comfortable to wear and beautiful to look at. She planned on a wider
cleavage to her bra.
Mone founded MJM International Ltd and after three years of design,
research and development she patented ‘Ultimato’ bra in 1999. That was
the time she had her third child. She launched Ultimo in the famous
London department store Selfridges. The store sold the entire six
weeks’ stock of her bra within 24 hours. It was an unexpected success.
In April 2000, she won the World Young Business Achiever Award. Next
month Ultimo was launched at the Saks Fifth Avenue store of New York,
United States..
In 2003, MJM launched their third design, The Ultimo Miracle Body, a
backless and front-less bra. In April 2004, the company launched a new
lingerie brand “Michelle for George" with Asda, and in 2006, launched
"Adore Moi" for Debenhams. In 2007, MJM launched a non-lingerie
product, the "Trim Secrets" diet pill.
In 2001 Prince Charles invited Michelle to join the Board of Directors
for the princes Scottish Youth
Business Trust. HRH the Princess Royal named her the ‘Best Newcomer’
at the British Apparel Export
Awards. In 2005 she was panelled with Bill Clinton and Mikhail
Gorbachev in a speaking
engagement. She went to the aid of the Sultan of Oman in setting up
women’ enterprise in the Middle
East.
Paisely University awarded her a honorary degree, Doctor of the
University, in 2002.
Inn 2003 she was listed with Martha Lane Fox and Stella McCartney as
one of the top three woman
entrepreneur.
Michelle was awarded the OBE by Her Majesty the Queen in January 2010
for her contribution to the
Lingerie Industry.
