Fellowships announced in Bhupenda’s name By our Staff Reporter GUWAHATI, Nov 13: With the aim of promoting research on Bhupenda’s works, ERD Foundation, Guwahati has announced two fellowships in the name of legendary bard Bhupen Hazarika. These fellowships will lead to PhD degree from the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya. Announcing this at a press conference in Guwahati today, ERD Foundation chairman M Hoque said, “The idea is to preserve the rich treasure of Bhupenda’s works so that his legacy can be carried on for generations. The University had requested Tezpur University Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury and B Barooah College Principal Dr Dinesh Baishya to come up with topics for the fellowship and they have decided upon two topics – contribution of Dr Bhupen Hazarika towards unity and integrity and Dr Bhupen Hazarika: Issues of Identity and Humanity. The fellowship will be conducted under the School of Media Science at the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya.” Vice-Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya, Dr Satyendra Kumar Choudhury said, “The process of introduction of the PhD programme in the university had started in September and the programme will be formally started in January next year. Along with this we will also start the research project.” A stipend of Rs 10,000 every month will be given to the fellows. The fellowship will be given to students doing research on the life and literacy work of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. The candidates must be postgraduate with excellent academic record and having sufficient experience in the field of literature and cultural studies. The research work will be published in different national and international journals and the final thesis will be compiled in the form of a book both in Assamese and English.
