Dear Friends;
Allow me to comment, please. The mention of Shillong compels me to be
nostalgic, a town where I spent nearly
twenty years of my life and where I had a house and where all my
children were born.

Post Bureau, Shillong (Apr 20): Arfi Lamba, who acted in the Oscar
award winning Slum Dog Millionaire will play in the lead role of an
upcoming movie Shillong.
“It’s a dream come true to be to this part of the country,” Lamba told
reporters here on Friday.
“We wanted to explore Shillong that Bollywood should also look towards
this beautiful city rather than the West,” Lamba said.
Lamba will shoot in the landscapes of Shillong and a few villages such
as Sohra (Cherrapunjee) and Lad Rymbai besides caves and waterfalls.
“Explore India which is yet to be explored” is the motive behind naming
the movie after Shillong and for 80 per cent of the shooting in the
city. The film with a Rs 1.5-crore budget is about a big town youth who
realised about his roots in the small town of Shillong.
His quest for destiny and for his place of origin is a rigorous
adventure that he undertook until his ambition is achieved. Even if
death is the ultimate goal of true adventure, he is all set to face the
torrent of Shillong rain and ready to climb the majestic mountains and
perilous cliffs of this beautiful hill province.
Shillong will be directed by Chinmoy Sarmah who already had a tinge of
Bollywood as a film director at the cost of his lucrative management
career in the corporate sector. His maiden film Gullak is already doing
the rounds in various festivals across India.
Chinmoy Sarmah who accompanied Lamba, said, “It is like a dream come
true for him and Lamba to have landed in Shillong city and the movie is
all set to start the shooting during this monsoon season in June.” The
movie is likely to be released during Puja holidays.
Sarmah said 80 per cent of the shooting will be in Shillong and the
schedule will be completed in about a fortnight. Lamba had a theatre
background till he got the break in Slum Dog Millionaire. He also was
the Indian face for the film at Cannes Festival and thereafter
frequented his association with Cannes and Berlin festivals.
The recent visit of Chinmoy Sarmah to Shillong tempted him to develop
the concept on Shillong’s social and geographical structures. Apart
from shooting in Shillong, the film will also explore enormous local
talents to take part in the film. The film is a joint production of the
Bombay Berlin Film Production and First Day First Show (FDFS) Motion
Pictures headed by a local entrepreneur Narupa Mylliempdah.
