Singh Dhoni will visit the Baramulla district in north Kashmir on Sunday to 
cheer for a match in the Kashmir Premier League, or KPL, Kashmir’s own version 
of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament. The initiative was started by 
the Indian Army last year to promote cricket among youngsters in the 
conflict-ridden valley (Hindustan Times).
West Bengal: The state transport minister, Madan Mitra, said on Friday that the 
state government would “requisition” or even go to court if private buses and 
taxis do not operate during shutdowns or strikes in the state, The Telegraph 
reported. His statement came a day after a nationwide strike that protested the 
recent gasoline price hike by the government, during which taxis and buses run 
by private operates were not plying. 
Rajasthan: To expedite the trial in longstanding cases of illegal pre-natal sex 
determination and female foeticide, the state government will set up seven 
special courts, The Times of India reported. According to the medical health 
and family welfare department, until March this year, 308 cases were pending 
against violators of pre-natal sex determination laws, in the state, the 
newspaper reported.
Uttar Pradesh: Microsoft founder Bill Gates met with Uttar Pradesh Chief 
Minister Akhilesh Yadav in state capital, Lucknow, and discussed plans to 
launch health care programs in the state (Hindu Business Line). The state 
government said it was only going to seek expertise for the programs and not 
monetary help from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (Economic Times).
Andhra Pradesh: State high court Chief Justice Madan Lokur has suspended a top 
watchdog agency’s special judge on corruption charges, The New Indian Express 
reported. Additional judge of the Central Bureau of Investigation, T. Pattabhi 
Ramarao, is accused of receiving an estimated 100 million rupees, about $1.7 
million, for granting bail to former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, 
who had been charged in an illegal mining case, the newspaper reported. Mr. 
Ramarao now faces arrest.
Tamil Nadu: The death of an infant from dengue has raised the death toll from 
the deadly fever to 29 in the Tirunelveli district in the state. On Tuesday, 
Hari Prasath, a 1 1/2-year-old boy from Mela Puliyangudi area in the district, 
was admitted to a local hospital, where he died on Wednesday night (The New 
Indian Express).
