I see the word "Sop" used in many Indian news stories. Not having seen this
word in use when I lived in India, I searched the web for its meaning in the
context. The closest I could find was, "a concession, bribe, etc, given to
placate or mollify. For example, a sop to one's feelings".
Could I request netters from India (Assam) to verify if that is how the word is
applied? Could dearness allowance (DA) given to government employees be a sop
for increase in fuel price?
