Rongali Bihu celebrated at Muscat

 GUWAHATI,
April 21 – As in the past, this year too on April 11 the Asom Samaj of
Muscat proudly showcased the culture and tradition of Rongali Bihu at
Majan Intercontinental Hotel, an e-mail received here stated. The
stage was painstakingly decorated with several gamosas, japi and xorai.
The meticulously created huge backdrop showing a beautiful japi placed
with a gamosa and impressions of dancers left every one awestruck and
nostalgic. Most of the Assamese families from all over Oman and guests
from other parts of India as well gathered to show solidarity and
actively participated. Guest artiste Priyanka Bharali regaled the
audience. She was accompanied by Jayanta Kakoti, who himself is a
musician and a very popular DJ.As a mark of respect and in
keeping up with traditions, visiting parents of expatriates in Oman were
requested to felicitate the guests with gamosas and also release the
souvenir titled Gogona featuring poems, short stories and articles about
personal experiences and much more by talents of Asom Samaj here. The
Assamese spirit was kept alive with chorus and solo songs and group and
solo dances by both adults and children on evergreen songs numbers by
the legends and visionaries of Assam like Dr Bhupen Hazarika, Kalaguru
Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala and singers like
Pulok Bannerji, Dolly Ghosh and Munmi Borah, to name just a few.The
heart and soul of the evening, however, was the Husori Bihu, which was
made even more special by the women dancers, who used props like Kahi
and Japi. Their energy and enthusiasm dissipated throughout the hall and
the audience was transported to a different world altogether.
