83.82 pc pass in HS Sc exam

GUWAHATI, May 20 – The results of Higher Secondary Final Examination-2013
conducted by AHSEC in Science, Commerce and Arts streams declared today
witnessed a slight dip in the pass percentage in Science and Arts streams in
comparison to past two years, whereas the Commerce stream results also recorded
a marginal fall in comparison to the last year. This year’s pass percentage in
Science stream is 83.82 compared to 87.32 per cent in 2011 and 85.58 per cent
in 2012. Arts stream recorded a pass percentage of 70.11 against corresponding
figures of 73.14 and 70.23 in 2011 and 2012 respectively. With an aggregate
pass percentage of 80.08, Commerce stream recorded a better result in
comparison to 2011 (79.81 per cent), but it fell short of past year’s record of
81.17 per cent. With an aggregate of 475 out of 500, Rishabh Sarma of Cotton
College topped Science stream with letter marks in English, Alternative
English, Physics, Chemistry and Maths. In
Commerce stream, Arihant Maloo of Shrimanta Shankar Academy, Guwahati, and
Anushka Jain of Gauhati Commerce College shared the top position
with a total of 457 marks each. It may be noted that Arihant was the
first batch student of Shrimanta Shankar Academy’s Commerce stream. The top
position in Arts stream
was occupied jointly by Ananya Saikia of Reliance Junior College,
Golaghat, and Ankita Gogoi of Cotton College, with an aggregate of 469
marks each.An interesting facet of this year’s results was that out of five
students who bagged top positions in the three streams, four students were from
Guwahati-based educational institutions. A total of 1,92,302 students appeared
in the Arts stream, 15,359 students appeared in Commerce stream and 21,000
students appeared in Science stream. In
a show of excellence, nine students from the Gauhati Commerce College
and seven students from Cotton College figured in the top-ten list. Other
colleges faring well in Science stream
are Ramanujan Jr College, Nagaon, with five students in top ten list,
Salt Brook Academy, Dibrugarh with four toppers, and Ramanuj Gupta Jr
College, Silchar with three toppers. In Commerce stream, Salt Brook students
have bagged three positions and KC Das Commerce College got two positions. In
Arts stream, however, four ‘institutional private’ students were among the rank
holders. District-wise
breakup of the results this year indicated a healthy trend in the form
of better performance of some small towns, competing on equal terms with
their elite counterparts in Guwahati. Among the districts which did
well in Science stream are Nalbari (92.18 pc), Jorhat (91.43 pc),
Lakhimpur (91.21 pc), Darrang (90.96 pc), Dibrugarh ((90.87 pc), Dhemaji
(91.96 pc) Barpeta (86.71 pc), Goalpara (86.01 pc), Bongaigaon (85.49
pc). The pass percentage in Kamrup was 82.94 per cent. In Arts
also, districts like Dhemaji (89.14 pc), Lakhimpur (84.12 pc), Nalbari
(83.99 pc), Darrang (83.96 pc) and Barpeta (81.11 pc) did well in
comparison to Kamrup (75.34 pc). The performance of various districts in
Commerce stream was Dhemaji (96.13 pc), Dima Hasao (95.59 pc), Morigaon
(91.77 pc), Goalpara (91.19 pc), Barpeta (88.58 pc), Sivsagar (87.99
pc) in comparison to Kamrup, which was 81.34 per cent. The results of HS Final
Year Examination, Vocational Part II were also declared with an aggregate pass
percentage of 73.90, which dipped from last year’s 77.59 per cent.Toppers
