Dr Mridul Hazarika new VC of GU STAFF Reporter GUWAHATI, Aug 14 – Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik, who is also the Chancellor of Gauhati University (GU), today appointed Dr Mridul Hazarika as Vice Chancellor (VC) of Gauhati University, said an official press release here this evening.
Dr Hazarika, who is at present working as Chief Scientist at the Science Foundation for Tribal and Rural Resource Development, Bhubaneswar, is also a Visiting Professor of School of Applied Sciences at the Cranfield University in the United Kingdom. He has held several important positions earlier including that of Director, Tea Research Association’s Tocklai Experimental Station. He is also a recipient of several awards, including the National Merit Scholarship-1967, Rajiv Gandhi Rashtriya Ekta Samman-2012 and Mahatma Gandhi Samman (Gold Medal)-2012. When contacted, Dr Hazarika told this newspaper that he would work to make GU the first choice for the Indian students. “This University has a very good reputation for its academic standard. It has a lot of laurels to its credit. We must maintain the momentum”, he said.
